  Develop detailed purchasing specifications and oversee all details related to the bid and award process, in conjunction with the City's Purchasing Department. Manage and conduct the design and pre-construction processes with the apparatus manufacturer, as well as conduct all in-process and final acceptance inspections. I have also assisted in similar processes for the refurbishment of several of our fire apparatus.I am a key member of our department's Transformation Initiative team, working with our Strategic Planning Office to develop and implement a multi-million dollar transformational apparatus replacement program that incorporates not only the replacement of fire apparatus, but also the complete refurbishing of them to extend their useful life cycle.Over the course of my career with the Grand Rapids Fire Department, I have overseen the replacement of the entire front-line and reserve fleet of fire apparatus.   Quote Writer Database Administrator

  Quote Writer is a very complex database used to create detailed bid quotations and construction specifications for custom built fire apparatus. As Quote Writer Administrator I was responsible for all updates and maintenance of the database, as well as all upgrades and expansion of the system. Working with the Director of Sales and Marketing, the sales staff and the engineering staff, I was responsible for the creation or vetting of all specification language entered in to the database. One of my best accomplishments was working with the software developer to move the master database from a single laptop PC to a secure cloud-based system.Training new dealers to use the Quote Writer system was also one of my responsibilities. Initially, this was all done face-to-face in a classroom at the factory several times a year. I eventually transitioned the training program to a web-based live meeting format that was much more cost effective for all parties involved.I worked from my home based office on my days off from the fire station, with monthly trips to corporate headquarters or elsewhere as required. My employment with Seagrave ended in October of 2009 when my position with the company was eliminated during the seventh round of corporate downsizing. Show less

  Having retired from the Grand Rapids Fire Department, I am working full time as the Cost Estimator for Nucraft Furniture, one of the nation's premier manufacturers of custom meeting space furniture and office casegoods. My work with the Customer Experience Group involves costing special, often highly customized office and meeting space furniture, many of them one-of-a-kind, created specifically for our customer's individual requirements. Working closely with our engineering department and manufacturing, it is my responsibility to ensure that the bespoke furniture we create for our clients is competitively priced yet profitable for the company.
