  Participation in a one-month campaign for my Bachelor thesis

  Study the migration of the pelagic species Calonectris diomedea borealis. Analyze the birds for ecological, ethological and physiological studies. The work consisted on attending some fieldworks and getting involved in some full-time activities. I have been trained on various techniques, including trapping and handling seabirds, sampling blood, feathers and parasites, performing physiological analyses and helping with heavy metal analyses.

  Three-months campaign (fieldwork) for my Master thesis research

  Study the difference in nest attendance between young and expert pairs in common terns Sterna hirundo. Learn how to use some statistical programs, as SPSS, for example. Handle seabirds, study the population demography, take feathers’ samples, help in transponders’ insertions. Observe behaviour of breeding period, nest attendance and feeding habits.

  Fieldwork for the EU LIFE+ Malta Seabird Project, which aims to create an inventory of marine Important Bird Areas (IBAs) for three seabird species: Yelkouan Shearwater, Cory's Shearwater and European Storm Petrel- Boat-based transect surveys and land-based observations, using the ‘European Seabirds at Sea’ (ESAS) standardised methodology- Ringing and tagging of seabirds with tracking devices at their nesting colonies, in order to gain information about the birds’ distribution out at sea. GPS loggers are attached to the back of Yelkouan and Cory’s shearwaters, for a few days at a time, to record where the birds have been on their foraging trips out at sea. - Radio-tracking of European storm-petrels from an aircraft.- Analysis of data with the statistical program Paradox Help in the monitoring and surveillance of hunting and trapping of birds during Spring Watch and Raptor Camp to tackle illegal hunting and trapping.Help in field surveys, surveillance analysis and for Malta's Farmland Bird Survey 2013.Fundraising and environmental education campaign to raise awareness.
