Homelessness is a life-and-death crisis in the United States, and one that requires an urgent national response. The only solution to homelessness is ensuring that people have access to housing as a basic human and civil right. To respond to this crisis, the National Coalition for the Homeless has spearheaded the launch of Bring America Home NOW: A Comprehensive Grassroots Campaign to End Homelessness in the U.S. Led by people who have themselves experienced or are experiencing being unhoused.The campaign is focused on the passage of federal legislation aimed at addressing the interconnected issues that have contributed to the decades-long epidemic of homelessness in the United States. Bring America Home Now focuses on 6 major policy areas: Housing, Health Care, Livable Incomes, Education and Training, Civil Rights, and Racial Equity.       I am happy to share that on November 10th, I was honored to be offered to serve and I humbly accepted the role of Founding Board of Trustees for The Launching Pad Humanitarian Center in Long Island, New York. Focused on Holistic Approach: The center's primary aim is to address homelessness at its core by offering a comprehensive approach through counseling, job training, work-study programs, addiction services, and mental health care. The center empowers individuals to escape the cycle of homelessness, promoting long-term stability and a self-sufficient community.I will be leading Board Development and Education, in addition to Coaching Youth Leadership and Advocacy Training for a youth led and service oriented organization (Duo Youth Group) working in partnership with the Humanitarian Center. There is nothing more powerful than a passionate, motivated, and organized group of people united by a cause greater than self and compassionate enough to be catalysts for social justice and change. It is on me, it is on you, it is on all of us to be catalysts for social change and show humanity toward others. You will be amazed how even the smallest act of kindness and empathy can have an unimaginable ripple effect in communities and society. In teaching we learn and in learning we grow. I look forward to learning and growing through volunteering with amazing people who stand for something bigger than self and are doing amazing work in communities on a daily basis. Show less

Oyster Bay High School 2010.In 2010, the Oyster Bay-East Norwich school district has introduced a new program that is designed to prepare students for their future in the 21st century. The 21st Century Diploma is a program that encourages students to develop and learn the skills that they will need for their future.It consists of an online portfolio for each student, where they will keep track of activities they have completed for points. If they earn 100 points from the time students enter high school as freshmen to the time they graduate, then they will receive a special diploma, a 21st Century Diploma.Six important aspects for life in the 21st century are considered to be: life-long learner, health and fitness, communication, work ethic, information technology, and global awareness. The activities are divided into these six areas that will help students develop these qualities. Although this program is designed to prepare students for the future, it isn’t all about new technologies. The program also emphasizes interest in the arts, in books, newspapers, Broadway shows, museums, fitness and more. In the end, they hope that the students who complete this program will become hard-working, well-round students.Participating students will create an online portfolio, submitting proof of completed activities to earn points. To enter an upcoming activity, students can send a message to the administrators for approval. After completing the activity and submitting an artifact to their portfolio, a teacher will review it.There are a group of teachers who have volunteered to review the projects. The subject of the activity will correspond to the teacher that reviews it. This brand new program is already in full swing. There have already been over 100 activities requested and approved.
