  This position involved profiling researcher needs and assisting researchers with reliable regional information. Other activities included carrying out user education, indexing articles, maintenance of electronic databases, collection building, preparing institutional acquisitions lists and bibliographies, marketing the institution’s Virtual Library for Southern Africa (VLSA) and rapporteuring institutional meetings and report writing. The position also entailed writing articles for the Southern African News Features, and the SADC official newsletter, The SADC Today, published by SARDC, and carrying out photo research for the institutional publications. I was also involved in the tracking of usage of SARDC information materials in print media in the region, and in electronic media, and producing reports of usage of the SARDC information products.   The position entailed supporting access to current information and news services on southern Africa and disseminating this globally through the EarthWire Africa News Service (www.earthwire.org/africa); researching and writing news features on global issues, focusing on their implications on southern Africa and promoting information materials from SARDC, especially the Virtual Library for Southern Africa. Other activities also included monitoring and evaluating the use and impact of published materials and undertaking joint project developments with UNEP/GRID-Arendal. GRID-Arendal is a United Nations Environment Programme (FN miljøprogram) agency based in Arendal, on the south-eastern coast of Norway.During this period, I was also involved in several publications and projects including the Balkan Vital Graphics, the Environment and Poverty Times #5, and the Vital Forest Graphics; and the inception of the Global Adaptation Information Network. Managing and coordinating APSA III Programme activities; establishing robust programme monitoring and evaluation systems; planning and budgeting; and reporting of programme implementation. Constantly engaged the donor (European Union) and the Contracting Authority (African Union) in implementation of the APSA Roadmap (2016-2020) and the AU Master Roadmap of Practical Steps to Silence the Guns in Africa by the Year 2020. Conducting research and facilitating documentation and sharing of information on human trafficking, smuggling of migrants, related transnational organised crimes, implementation of AU institutional reform, and other pertinent issues of relevance to the SADC region.
