      Project developer and manager

Business conceptualizer, developer and administratorOrganized and guided thematic outdoor excursions to promote responsible tourism and disseminate awareness of local marine and coastal biodiversity and its conservationEstablished solid collaborations with local enterprises (travel agencies, museum). With this professional activity I managed to integrate the passion for the local biodiversity and the scientific knowledge acquired during the MSc in Marine Biology. The idea was to disseminate scientific information during outdoor activities to help participants directly appreciate the contents of thematic tour. Participants had three different themes to choose. Starting from a small waterfall next to the village and following the river up to the sea, the first path was an introduction to the physiological adaptation of organisms in brackish environments. The second path, a climbing up to a monastery, introduced the peculiar environment of the centenary olive groves of Parga. The last, was a long cliff walk where is possible to observe insects and spontaneous herbs typical of the Mediterranean coastal environment. Occasionally, the tours were also conducted on boats with clients from cruise ships, and the tour themes were focused on the local marine biodiversity and the concerns undermining its preservation. Title: Insects fed IMTA seaweed sustain circular economy in aquacultureTested the possibility to implement the circular economy in the aquaculture sector by exploiting the possibility to feed seaweeds used as extractive species in IMTA set-ups. This approach not only enhances the cycling of nutrients (from cage leakages, to seaweed, to insects) but renders insect larvae enriched with sustainable sources of omega-3.Fed mealworms, black soldier flies and kelp flies with Saccharina latissima, Palmaria palmata and Laminaria digitata. Estimated the larval growth and their lipid quantity and quality.Established insect colonies, maintained the production of insect larvae and conceptualized effective rearing methods to perform the experiment Show less
