It is said that an average person now unlocks his smartphone 150 times a day to check WhatsApp Messages. India has the second-highest public binge-watchers in the world, says Netflix. These exponentially rising trends of digital dependency made us, the students of Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, to conduct a study to determine the prevalence of screen addiction and associated health concerns and to start our initiative called R.E.S.C.U.E.       Virtuoso is the official quizzing society of Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital under the aegis of the Academic Department of Seth GSMC Gymkhana. It was co-founded in September 2021 by me alongside my co-secretary during that term, and now I have joined as a team member in the same since August 2022. Virtuoso aims to make learning medicine more interesting and to increase the participation of students in inter-collegiate, regional, national and international quizzes. Activities of the society include organizing quizathons, short quizzes, exam-catered quizzes, inter-collegiate quizzes etc. Responsibilities entail making questions and their answers from credible standard resources, their review from experts, managing the hosting of quizzes, doubt-solving of participants, etc. Show less Gosumag is the official college magazine of Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital. This time we bring the 85th edition of this magazine. Working as the co-chief editor of tech and design entailed various responsibilities like handling the work of the creative editors’ team, tech team, public relations and marketing team; managing finances; coordinating various teams and so on. Gosumag has previously been indexed in the National Library of Medicine; has featured interviews of renowned and important personalities; and has featured articles by alumni who are now nationally and internationally renowned health experts in their field. We worked on the topic of ‘Screen Addiction’ under the guidance of Dr. Shilpa Adarkar (Additional Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai). I also worked and helped in the tech (audiovisual) and speech aspects of the presentation.       4-weeks elective clerkship in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology) at Stanford Medicine/ Stanford Fertility and Reproductive Health Centre, with Dr. Amin Milki as the clerkship director. This elective gave me direct clinical exposure to the work-up and management of infertility and common reproductive endocrinology problems (including some complicated multidisciplinary cases, like onco-fertility cases, RPL, etc.), as well as extensive exposure to assisted reproductive technologies and ambulatory surgery, procedures like oocyte retrievals and hysteroscopies, and lab techniques like IVF; with hands-on experience in ultrasonographies and assisting hysteroscopies. The experience also includes overall experience of patient consultations, Electronic Medical Records (Epic) and note-making, HIPAA (and other healthcare laws), and other aspects of US Healthcare system at large. The Program provides opportunities to Indian students to undertake research internships at premier U.S. Universities each summer for a period of 10-12 weeks. The aim of the Khorana Program is to foster dynamic and transformative student exchange between premier institutions in India and the United States. The program is named in honor of Professor Har Gobind Khorana, a pioneer chemical biologist, who shared the 1968 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine at University of Wisconsin-Madison for helping decipher the genetic code and for developing methods for nucleic acid synthesis. The scholars are selected through a stringent screening of hundreds of applicants every year.The Khorana Program provides return airfare, a $3000 stipend, and $600 for health insurance.
