The Youth & Family Services Bureau is a unique part of the Hayward Police Department where Police Officers and Professional Counselors work side by side offering a variety of services to the residents of Hayward.A week after I was Sworn in by Hayward Chief Charlie Plummer on 25 June 1984 who Created this Unit, I was asked to Join them as I took Interrogation, Sociology and Psychology at Chabot College and I spoke Spanish.A SVU Victim was rolled up in a corner of the YFSB Office, and the YFSB Police Officer and the Social Worker asked my Supervisor Officer Jerry White known to us a the "Happy Policeman" due to his great personality, to help "reach her" and Jerry said, "Al, why don't you take a Crack at her."20 minutes later she gave me/us a full Deposition and the YFSB Officer went and picked up the Suspect, and I became the Primary Reserve Transportation Officer for the Eden Hospital Trauma Unit and then taking them to the hidden Women's Shelter. On my own I Developed the First Community Policing Program for Downtown Hayward, I bonded with the Gay Community as a new Walking Beat Police Officer with a brand new daughter, and I was readily accepted by the Hidden Community that loved to dance, hug and share their struggles in daily life as we all do.When I quit the Department three months later after a devastating shootout with two Police Officers down on the ground, the Owners of the Downtown Bars including the Turf Club called Chief Charlie Plummer and said, “We need our Officer back.”https://www.facebook.com/groups/234304749943128/permalink/7695686833804845/"YFSB also offers a variety of prevention services that encourage youth to stay out of trouble and provide them with positive ways to engage with their peers and the community."The programs and services offered by YFSB include:Family Counseling, Crisis Intervention and Case ManagementSchool-Based Counseling ProgramAl Nichols "YFSBR" Show less Reserve Police Officer #729 - Academy Class of June 1984Patrol Officer, Bilingual Community Events Officer, Neighborhood Officer, Backup 911 Emergency Dispatcher Com Center.Senior Volunteer Recruiter and Senior Reserve Program Background Investigator, and Academy TrainerAssigned to Support Hayward Fire's Hazardous Materials Division1988: Missing Persons Assignment: Michaela Joy Garecht Ground Search Niles Canyon Search1989: Active on the streets during the Loma Prieta 6.9 Earthquake: https://www.facebook.com/groups/234304749943128/permalink/6447948708578670/Commendation - Senior Background Investigator and Investigator TrainerCommendation - Difficult Background Investigation for Candidate on GuamCommendation - Special Enforcement Unit Investigator (Difficult Investigations)Commendation - Crime Suppression Unit - Coordinating Anti-Burglary PatrolsCommendation - Crime Scene Detail Lead OfficerPistol Team Member Show less
