      Nov 2020 - Dec 2020
      Teacher assistant

My first practicum placement was in a grade one/two split class. As a result of COVID, there were fewer students in the class which encouraged me to get to know the students at a more personal level within a short span of time. With the addition of coding in the new Ontario math curriculum, I had the opportunity to create and execute a week-long coding program using ScratchJr, something my associate teacher had not taught before. Along the way, I learned a great deal about utilizing a backward-design approach to teaching. I was able to identify the big ideas and learning goals based on curriculum expectations and then created assessments for, as, and of learning. Show less

    • Bgc london

      Sept 2021 - Oct 2021
      Virtual teacher

During my virtual placement at BGC London, I witnessed how many students have been experiencing learning gaps, whether it be due to COVID or other factors. I took part in the Jr. MAP program, which began when I first started my placement. This provided me with the opportunity to work on assessment for learning, to see where students are at in their learning and where they need to go. I conducted diagnostic assessments in Math and Langauge to gauge learning gaps, and then further executed 1:1 teaching in the subjects based on their grade and stage of learning. Additionally, I analyzed psychological assessments of students to create student profiles which included a list of their strengths, needs, learning goals, and relevant information for the staff.
