      I joined this 200+ staff subsidiary of Saatchi & Saatchi as a Bought Ledger Assistant. Twelve weeks later I was made Assistant Financial Controller.I then stepped up to Financial Controller, managing a staff of 12 for 2 years.I left to go on a round-the-world trip in 1992 but was asked back in 1995 to fill in for the Financial Director who went on a sabbatical for 3 months.

      I had the privilege to spend 3 years in this Missionary Hospital as the Accountant. This was facilitated through the Agency for Personnel Services Services Overseas (APSO), an arm of Irish Aid that facilitated professionals to work in various projects overseas, paying them a stipend whilst doing so. In this role I:• Moved the hospital from a paper-based ledger system to a computerised finance system;• Trained staff not only in the use of the finance system but more broadly on computer basics in general.• As the most IT literate person at the hospital I provided IT support and training.       I joined Save the Children UK as part of the finance systems implementation team which successfully implemented PS Financials in April 2001.• I facilitated powerful analysis of the system by developing Cognos reports and training users on these.• I rolled out the system to, and trained staff in, 2 regional offices.• I developed training materials and provided regular training courses on the finance system.After 5 years in the role above I joined the Marketing Accounts Team as Fundraising Accountant.• I became expert in NGO tax issues, especially re Gift Aid & VAT.• I developed non-finance staff's proficiency in and responsibility for their budgets.• I used my extensive systems knowledge to provide relevant and timely reports for both Finance and Budget Holders. I followed this up with a number of smaller projects including stabilising and improving the year-end report that feeds their statutory reporting requirements.
