  I joined this 200+ staff subsidiary of Saatchi & Saatchi as a Bought Ledger Assistant. Twelve weeks later I was made Assistant Financial Controller.I then stepped up to Financial Controller, managing a staff of 12 for 2 years.I left to go on a round-the-world trip in 1992 but was asked back in 1995 to fill in for the Financial Director who went on a sabbatical for 3 months.

  I had the privilege to spend 3 years in this Missionary Hospital as the Accountant. This was facilitated through the Agency for Personnel Services Services Overseas (APSO), an arm of Irish Aid that facilitated professionals to work in various projects overseas, paying them a stipend whilst doing so. In this role I:• Moved the hospital from a paper-based ledger system to a computerised finance system;• Trained staff not only in the use of the finance system but more broadly on computer basics in general.• As the most IT literate person at the hospital I provided IT support and training.   Systems Development Accountant / Fundraising Accountant

  I joined Save the Children UK as part of the finance systems implementation team which successfully implemented PS Financials in April 2001.• I facilitated powerful analysis of the system by developing Cognos reports and training users on these.• I rolled out the system to, and trained staff in, 2 regional offices.• I developed training materials and provided regular training courses on the finance system.After 5 years in the role above I joined the Marketing Accounts Team as Fundraising Accountant.• I became expert in NGO tax issues, especially re Gift Aid & VAT.• I developed non-finance staff's proficiency in and responsibility for their budgets.• I used my extensive systems knowledge to provide relevant and timely reports for both Finance and Budget Holders.   I joined World Vision as a Finance Business Partner for the Marketing Department and soon showed my diverse skills as my role flexed into other areas as follows:• Became the Subject Matter Expert for implementation of 2 systems, a Donor Database system and Finance & Field Projects system.• Instigated and developed the use of Vision XL reporting software to powerfully interrogate the Sun finance database.• Managed staff (3 directly; 20 indirectly).• Designed and implemented finance and process efficiencies, particularly using Excel VBA macros.• Trained Finance staff on Vision XL (including designing video tutorials) and non-finance staff on budget management.• Provided the financials underpinning the 5-year strategy 2011-2015.   I worked with World Vision to help them to manage and close off a long-standing project on messaging their financial structure that they have previously only been able to get limited traction on. I followed this up with a number of smaller projects including stabilising and improving the year-end report that feeds their statutory reporting requirements.

  I delivered over 60 eLearning modules on the new finance system (via the Charity Learning Corsortium's moodle site), together with face-to-face training sessions and Central Finance processes and procedures documentation.I also was a key player in the configuration and development of the new finance systems (5 software solutions delivered by Advanced including OpenAccounts and eBis).
