  Working as a Workshop/mechanical Technician producing and manufacturing components for the students and staff that study and work here. My job is very varied as to what I make; it can be anything from a camera bracket to a workbench or to a scientific instrument that will aid the research of marine life and oceanography. The pieces of equipment, which I manufacture, are made from a wide range of materials, using various machinery and hand fitting tools.   I was initially employed as a deckhand aboard M/Y Balista (47meters) and was given the opportunity to advance my career to Bosun when the position became available during the 1st season on a busy charter and private yacht. My duties on board varied from driving the jet tender, responsibility of all water sports for the guests and general deck maintenance and repair. Finally, I had full responsibility for the deckhand and day workers.

  As a Deckhand on M/Y Caipirinha, I was involved in bridge watch keeping dutiesincluding long over night passages where I worked alongside the captain as well asthe first/second officer to gain extra knowledge and experience. During my time onboard I was heavily involvedin all water sports duties and have gained additional skills and experience in painting,gelcoat repair and varnishing accompanied by mooring operations and strengtheningmy seamanship skills.   During my 3 year cadetship I completed 1-year sea service onboard 2 oil/chemical tankers. Whilst onboard I gained extensive experience in the safe navigation of the vessel as well as assisting in the ship’s stability and loading/discharging of the ship’s cargo. When not on watch I worked side by side with the 3rd officer to maintain the LSA equipment to an operational standard in order to comply with SOLAS regulations.
