  Started at Merrill in a Client Services role, however within a year of joining it became obvious that my career path lied in the Front Office. I was transferred to the LIFFE trading floor and worked as a Traders Assistant whilst taking Trader exams. This coincided with the move into Electronic Trading. In late Spring 1998 I became part of a project team to build Merrill Lynch's first Global Electronic Desk, involved working with numerous internal IT teams around the globe, Proprietary desk's, Risk and Compliance departments and numerous external contacts.   I traded a wide range of products, TED spreads in Europe and the USA, NoB spreads in USA, and continued looking at the European 5yr-10yr contracts, using previous yield curve experience to lean on the spreads as a possible hedge whilst trading those contracts outright.Refco purchased Easyscreen in 2005, the plan was to turn it into the main front end trading platform for their Proprietary traders. At the time the platform was more suited for retail clients. I was one of several traders at Refco who was tasked with working with developers to make the alterations. It involved meetings with developers to outline traders needs and wants, testing system in live and simulation environment, working through bugs, initial assessment of all upgrades and continued evaluation of platforms viability.   Added a number of other contracts to the portfolio of contracts i trade, trading Dax, Eurostox and Dow Jones futures whilst using one contract as a hedge for the other if caught in a sharp move. This proved very successful. In addition i carried on trading the products that i had previous experience in.Whilst in this role STA was partnering with developers to build a front end trading platform. As a senior trader with prior project management experience i was tasked with being lead contact on the trading side. Liasing with IT team to test platform in live and sim environment, suggest upgrades, report on bugs. This involved regular meetings with a number of teams within STA and the lead IT developer. This platform is now known as Stellar Trading Systems and available globally within the futures and options industry.   Alongside trading for my own account at Schneider Trading Associates (STA), i was permitted by the FSA to trade on behalf of City Fund Management on a pre-determined trade split. It was a hugely successful arrangement, during some very busy periods in the market. Due to leaving STA it was not possible to continue this relationship.

  This coincided with the blow up of leverage in the market. Thus the number of contracts i could focus on became greatly reduced towards the end of my time with TTG, as the gearing offered by clearers disappeared. A very volatile couple of years of trading, managing your own risk became a necessity as a trader.
