Recommends methods to improve English training within the program, and the quality of ELT for future programs.       Currently, I am stationed in Kabul Afghanistan continuing with the training of Afghan Armed Forces with military occupational specialties in the fields of Army Commandos at Camp Morehead, aviation maintenance, flight engineers, and Mi-17 pilots. I am part of the curriculum development team in charge of Aviation English Training and an English language acquisition instructor. My mission continues here teaching at the Afghan Air University (Pohantoon-e-Hawayee "Air University") carrying on with the mission of the former Thunder Lab.The Thunder Lab, an English immersion lab for Afghan lieutenants, has been selected as one of two teams to represent Air Combat Command for the 2011 Chief of Staff Team Excellence award. Thunder Lab transitioned to be named SELTC Shindand English Language Training Center and was transferred to Afghan control in July 2014. Following the completion of the mission of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) at the end of 2014, a new, follow-on NATO-led mission called Resolute Support was launched on 1 January 2015 to provide further training, advice and assistance for the Afghan security forces and institutions. This is my current assignment.At SELTC we used a systematic approach to enhance mission capability, improve operational performance and create sustained results. We aimed to improve the English, aviation and professional skills of Afghan officers awaiting pilot training. Currently they use the Defense Language Institute English Language Center curriculum and American Headway curriculum to improve their vocabulary and English language Acquisition . I taught the Aviation English specialty class along with my colleague John Michael Jones. There, the Afghan lieutenants studied topics relating to aviation such as mathematics, science and meteorology. Our goal is to bring Aviation English training so that our students can reach ICAO Level 4 and continue their FOT (Follow On Training) in order to become pilots. Show less
