      My role as a Local Port Service (LPS) Operator is to offer both traffic and local meteorological information to vessels within port limits via VHF communication. A VHF radio communication certificate has been completed with focus on using the Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP) as outlined by IMO.The monitoring of VHF radio frequencies and CCTV is essential to maintain a safe and operational port area. Direct and concise communication with vessels, Pilots, Port Stakeholders and shore based teams is vital to the role in order to ensure all parties are aligned and operations run efficiently. The role requires an in depth understanding of the Vessel management system for creating bookings and recording vessels ETA, ETD, Draft, POB, Security level and Hazardous classes on board. Additionally, the planning of vessels and berth allocation within the port is an integral part of the role to ensure vessels are provided with the facilities requested and for the efficient running of the ports operations.
