  WIth the special thematic year on real algebraic geometry and control theory, I started new collaborations with postdocs and other visiting faculty, participated in the conferences and seminars, and started new ventures that continue to this day.

  As a functional analyst, mathematical physicist and operator theorist, I teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in mathematics, mentor undergraduate and graduate student on research and serve the University in my role as a professor of mathematics in teaching, research and service. Involved in interdisciplinary research with faculty from these areas on problems of optimal control, robotics and secure genome encoding in GMOs. As a department head for 6 years (two consecutive terms), I helped lead the department into a more focused approach to teaching and research, raising the stature of research, funding and graduate student recruitment/PhD production of the department, and creating a vision for the department for the following 5 years that would allow the students and faculty to succeed.
