During all of my time in graduate school, 1988 to 1991, I volunteered as the Director of Development for the Museum of East Texas in Lufkin, Texas.

      As the fundraiser and public relations director for this faith-based residential boys' home in southwest Oklahoma, I traveled and spoke extensively in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Kansas. I was also responsible for production of all public relations and fundraising publications.

      While working as a minister and foster parent, as noted below, I visited donors and prospective donors in their homes, making discovery calls, seeking funds to benefit High Plains Children's Home in Amarillo. This was my effort to not only help the good work of HPCH, but also allow me to further my experience and skills in fundraising. Working with my wife, we nurtured and cared for up to 8 teenage boys, most of whom were placed at the home by juvenile probation offices. This included working extensively with the school system, the legal system, mental health workers, and child protective services.

As a part of a five person team, we trained about 500 employees annually. My responsibilities centered on First Aid/CPR and Behavior/Anger Management training.

      After almost seven years as the fundraiser for Cherokee Home for Children, I became the executive director at the death of the former director. Five years later, I returned to fundraising again for my last two years with this residential faith-based children's home.

      "Parenting in a Media Filled World" Seminars

      This seminar was presented to church, civic, and educational groups at about 120 locations nationwide. The goal was to help parents and grandparents deal more effectively with moral, social, and spiritual damage caused by social media and television sources. This was a personal ministry closely related to my graduate school studies on the effects of media on children. I still present abbreviated sessions about social media when requested.

      While serving as the chief development officer for this prison ministry, I also taught classes regularly in the regional state prisons and the federal detention center. Left to relocate closer to grandchildren in Abilene and north Texas.

      Diligently seek scholarship funds for students, in-kind gifts for faculty and staff, general funding, and capital funding for new facilities. All while assisting recruiting, job placement, and workforce training as the primary field representative for the four west Texas campuses.

      Rural Church Preaching Minister

      Travel each Sunday morning to teach Bible class and present worship period sermon to a congregation of about 12. Rochester is a small farming and ranching community about 65 miles north of our home in Abilene.
