      Lead Habilitation Specialist

In 5 months’ time I was promoted from a care provider to a lead care provider adding on more responsibility and jobs. I have different duties depending on my location. I could work in the center where I do Respite which is caring for the child or children and ensuring they are well cared for. I also help run the DTT program which is their after-school program that is mainly working on their goals which can include attitude and behavior goals or social skills. I work with kids with all ranges of disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy as well as many others. I also work in homes one on one with clients. That also includes respite which means I care for their needs and am their primary care taker as well as working on their individual goals and habilitation. Habilitation varies on the client but can be anywhere from cooking, to cleaning, social skills and any other skills that they may need extra assistance in. This summer I helped plan and run the DTS program which had about 90 students, I helped plan outings, water days, cooking lessons, science experiments and more. I have those documents showing all of the detailed work that went into planning everything for 90 special needs children. Currently I have been a part of a team that has grown the program in the Chandler location from 10 children to 25 children in a few months, revamping the center making it kid friendly and changing the program to be much more child focused and more focus on learning, skills and fun instead of computers and doing nothing.
