      8.5/9th Grade English Teacher

I taught 8.5 and 9th grade students reading and writing. Having no experience in the classroom, I jumped right in my first year. People say that the first year will make you or break you. It made me. My first year in education was an extremely challenging year, but I learned quickly on the job, and I ended the school year with a strong sense of accomplishment.

    • West Baton Rouge Schools, Port Allen Middle School

      Aug 2003 - Nov 2014

I staffed a new administration, a new TAP Leadership Team, and several other vacant teaching positions. Although we had many new teachers, our school performance score was just two-tenths of a point shy of the record SPS from the previous year. The year culminated with PAMS winning the TAP Ambassador Award at the 2014 National TAP Conference. I collaborated with teachers and students in significantly reducing the number of discipline referrals. I worked as a member of the school’s TAP Leadership Team to analyze data, develop strategies, conduct teacher observations, and provide professional development. During my tenure as an assistant principal, each year Port Allen Middle School achieved record school performance scores. I provided school-based professional development to teachers as we implemented Success For All: Reading Edge and provided low-level readers with interventions. I taught students with a passion for reading, writing, and learning. I was a member of the School Improvement Team. I taught 6th and 7th grade students reading, writing, public speaking, and computer processing.
