Master of Arts - MA Modern and Contemporary Literature Distinction

My Master's degree was divided into two broad topic areas: Time and Space, as well as research study skills. My degree allowed for a great deal of flexibility to study topics of interest. Therefore, I tailored my studies towards the Medical Humanities and interdisciplinary analyses of modern literature, with a particular interest in texts which examined the female body and mind.

      Administration Assistant

Office Team Leader (May 2015 – April 2017)Admin Assistant (2010-May 2015)Alongside my studies I worked within a busy team as an Administration Assistant. As an Office and Safe Key holder I have a high responsibility role within the store. My main duties were handling and managing large sums of money day to day, with weekly takings over £100,000. In terms of money management I conducted safe checks, counted store takings and worked to detect till discrepancies. I then input these figures into Excel spreadsheets to run reconciliation reports, cashbook records, discrepancy logs and budgets. Additional office duties included managing customer calls and switchboard, tannoy announcements, organising prospective employee interviews and general paperwork including recording invoices, filing and photocopying. In May 2015 I stepped up to the role of full-time Office Team Leader when a work colleague took ill and remained on long-term sick. Within this role I had to learn quickly and often as I worked, under very immediate pressure. As well as managing my team, I became responsible for managing the wages of all staff within the Newcastle branch (approx. 60-80 staff). Alongside this, I recruited and fully trained a new admin team member in preparation for my return to University, and thus my subsequent reduction in work hours and handover of responsibilities. Research Intern

This role included extensive independent research, contacting outside bodies, designing a website re-vamp and formulating a series of recommendations for the continuation and implementation of the project.Based on the merit of my first term as intern my contract was renewed for a second term. In this term I saw the implementation of my recommendations and enforced the redesign of the website. This redesign optimised the user experience of the website by editing and enhancing the layout and content. Not satisfied with what I felt was an incomplete project, at the end of my paid internship I continued the work as part of a Graduate Development module in my third year of University. In this module I project managed the design, production and editing of promotional videos for the department – videos which are now actively used by the department as part of their online recruitment campaign. Despite low production costs these videos are professional, mindful of Department branding and effectively communicate the information specified by the Head of Department. Show less
