Notably: Introducing electronic steelcord belt defect detection and world leading belt drive design systems. For Bosworth SA; Revised engineering strategy, made disposals, improved retained divisions profit performance and supported sale to Vickers SA. Researched main product design improvement, pushed market share from 35% to 65% over 6 years. Company acquired main competitor and won major international projects as a result.       Role included responsibility for all aspects of project support to the business, and successful resolution of serious inherited CAPEX budget and project spend control issues on £40Mpa. Highlights include: Railhead, Leeds, brownfield site partnership development (funded 50% Tilcon, 25% Tarmac, 25% DoT grant) with exceptional levels of scrutiny. (£10M). Two new greenfield sand plant developments (£6M) and energy policy and procurement for all Tilcon plants.       Responsible for engineering support to the business, and for a number of key projects (value £10-20M) including: Specification and build of 5 novel Dry Silo Mortar plants across three Tarmac areas. Scope included buildings, power, heating and site systems: Railhead, Leeds expansion of rail import. Including full specification, design, budget, construct and commission the largest concrete plant outside London, a DSM plant, power, offices, storage, direct rail feeds, buildings, drainage and infrastructure: Swinden Quarry; Responsible for redevelopment of a limestone quarry within a National Park, inc. a redesigned process with state of the art loading efficiency and its drainage, HV/LV power supply and buildings. This project won an industry safety award. Over this period I introduced the New Engineering Contract to the business making £0.75M of savings in the course of the £15M, 2Mtpa Swinden project Show less

      Project Manager Limestone Quarry

      The first rural investment in China by Tarmac, full responsibility for the process and infrastructure of a new limestone quarry plant (capacity 3 Million Tonnes per annum, Value $22M).We used the best of local and international machine suppliers. Infrastructure was fully locally sourced including power supply, control, barge wharf, loading equipment and roads. Buildings were adapted from local design practice with raised sustainability and efficient housing for 60 staff. Major challenges were full implementation of a ‘zero accident’ safety culture throughout the all Chinese engineering design teams and suppliers and ensuring Tarmac became a respected member of the local community. The output design was the first BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated design in a refurbished 1950’s office.Tarmac Building Products – Engineering Manager (Value £40Mpa)Responsible for building up and managing an engineering project team, systems and procedures across a division making, blocks, hollow flooring, tunnels, sleepers and bespoke cast building products. BP engaged in improved sustainability, developing thermal floors, Code 4 and 6 demonstration houses, offsite assembled housing units and reduction of embodied energy in products.       Great news the Bistro has hit #1 of 36 on local Trip Advisor ratings. Thanks to customers and staff who have been so enthusiastic. Our family own and operate the Bistro we created in Ripon with our youngest James King who is a keen chef. We specialise in the best of local produce presented with a flair. Top cuisine at reasonable prices - its Yorkshire after all. Sadly we had to close the doors - still top of Trip Advisor 2 months later, but footfall and resources did not allow us to deliver the standard we wanted. Show less
