      Jul 2011 - now

Reporting to the Manager of the Wholesale Energy group, this role oversees a team of three Developers and a Business Analyst tasked with delivering data engineering, modeling, visual analytics, and data science solutions.Key Achievements:Led the adoption of the Neo analytics platform as the primary tool for sharing Trading data within the business. Neo now supports over 250 custom charts, dashboards, and reports for teams across New Zealand.Pioneered the adoption of R and Rstudio as the primary advanced modeling suite for Trading. This included organizing boot camps and hackathons with external vendors to enhance user proficiency. Trading now operates over a dozen production-grade machine learning, actuarial, and anomaly detection models, many of which run autonomously on our AWS cloud infrastructure.Championed the use of SharePoint and Azure DevOps (Git) to help the broader Wholesale Trading team manage version control for their unstructured data and code-based projects. One team took it a step further by leveraging Azure DevOps's planning and sprint management functionality to transition to an Agile culture modeled off the approach used in my team.Noteworthy Projects:Led a six-month initiative to migrate a legacy SAS model to our new R platform. Adopting modern coding standards, and improved engineering, reduced the solve times for the model from over half an hour to under 5 minutes. This enabled the model to pick up on market changes being within minutes of them being published improving the time available to act on them.Led the migration of a demand forecasting model from Excel to R. While we experimented with machine learning models, we ultimately chose a statistical regression approach because of the improved accuracy and reduced computational overhead meaning it would run on more cost-effective cloud infrastructure.Actively engaged in graduate intern programs to support product enhancements and inject fresh ideas into our team.
