  The research project was successful in synthesizing CPD188, a promising potential STAT3 inhibitor. The STAT3 protein acts in a homodimeric form to activate pathways in cancer cells that help them to proliferate, grow, and avoid apoptosis. CPD188 displays promise in being able to inhibit the dimerization of STAT3, which would induce apoptosis. Synthetic analysis was completed using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and purification methods employed consisted of flash chromatography and re-crystallization. Show less

  Brianna works in the laboratory of Jeff Aube. Her projects include the synthesis of an HuR inhibitor for breast cancer treatment. She has also worked on various derivatives of the cephalosporin antibiotic core in an attempt to find a drug that is active against latent tuberculosis. Brianna plans to receive her Master's Degree by the end of 2017. -Ensure that all students wear proper attire in the laboratory and complete labs safely-Create and grade assignments for students that enhance their understanding of specific topics-Instruct students on proper use of instrumentation and techniques utilized in biochemistry
