  Product Designer

  During my brief time here as part of work experience, I aided in the development and modelling of ongoing design projects focussed on seating for office settings. The role also included an individual design project within the studio including the use of CAD and 3D printed prototypes in the iterative design of a design solution to a client problem.

  While working in this role, I was responsible for the organisation and running of in hall events and excursions including project management, supervision of staff and resident assistants, and creation of new experiences for students based on themes of wellbeing, skills development and social engagement, reaching record high ratings in annual surveys. This pushed me to imagine new events and activities engaging with local communities and projects to expose students to the culture and innovation within Bournemouth and the wider area, bringing in local brands to collaborate on events. Additionally, I created events that brought current issues to the attention of students, for example sustainable consumption, which I addressed through a series of visible mending workshops and swap shops in collaboration with local charities and creatives.I was also responsible for several innovations made to the organisations procedures, organising and leading focus groups to evaluate and improve the events offered by ResLifeBU, as well as creating new ways to engage with students using different event formats and engagement stands. Additionally I was tasked with creating guidelines and a coded checklist for sustainable events at ResLifeBU including factors ranging from procurement to travel, and including a series of sustainability led events as examples to future coordinators.This project was aimed at addressing comments from stakeholders requesting more sustainable practices and rating systems within ResLifeBU, and worked closely with Sustainability BU to identify current programmes and policy within the University.   Design & Technology Technician

  Responsible for health & safety and maintenance of workshop space and machinery at St Aldhelm's Academy secondary school. In addition to preparing resources for lessons, I developed new projects for students' practical half of the curriculum as well as aiding and advising in prototyping of a variety of product design and engineering based coursework, providing product design and manufacturing expertise. As part of this role, I received training on the use and maintenance of a variety of machinery, as well as additional training including fire marshal, safeguarding, and inclusivity training.Finally, I was responsible for administrative activities including purchasing for the department using Sage finance system, as well as ensuring workshops and activities met H&S guidelines including the creation of risk assessments and COSHH files.
