  I worked on two research projects funded by the MacArthur Foundation under the Digital Media and Learning initiative.The first project, PETLab, was a research project that developed games and play experiences to encourage alternative learning spaces. Research was primarily focused on the development of digital learning tools and games that explore social issues and the integration of emerging technology. My research centered on urban games and situated learning, mobile technology, and prototyping.The second project, Wakatta!, was a jointly led by the Social Science Research Council and Parsons and leveraged research and design as a process to assist civic and youth development organizations in New York City.   Co-primary Investigator on Creative IT Grant Project

  Co-pi on a research project called Urban Game Design: Tool for Creativity, Collaboration, and Learning Among Youth. It is a National Science Foundation funded research project under their Creative IT initiative. The purpose of the study is to better understand the potential of new media for fostering creativity among youth. Through iterative game design youth participants learn new ways to link media to physical locations via mobile technologies. As a primary investigator in this three year study, my responsibilities include the authoring of curriculum, facilitating workshops, iPhone application design, and data analysis. Show less

  SPARK Center at DePaul University, Director - The Strategic Partnerships for the Advancement of Research and Knowledge (SPARK) Center at DePaul University is a new initiative with the president's office focused on interdisciplinary and translational research. The center will convene constituents from academia, community and industry who share an interest in developing solutions and equitable futures for socioeconomic challenges affecting Chicago in the spaces of poverty, sustainability, or artificial intelligence. The SPARK Center uses predictive data modeling, data visualization and storytelling to create consumable research materials that invite community and non-experts into critical decision making conversations.As the director, I am in charge of developing the research, operating, curriculum, and funding models; relationship and awareness building inside and outside of the university; and directing the programing the physical build out of the space and technology.
