Activities and Societies: Member of Cohort 7, European Union LEAD is a cross-sectoral, cross-cultural training, mentoring and networking initiative originally funded through the Rockefeller Foundation but now based in the UK. Its mandate is to develop and support a new generation of leaders who, equipped with a fresh combination of skills and perspectives, would be linked through their experience and careers in a global network focused on environmentally sound development. Georgian College's Great Lakes International Marine Training and Research Institute is one of five post-secondary institutions in Canada that are Transport Canada and International Marine Organization (IMO) approved to train and qualify Marine Engineering and Marine Navigation Officers. The Marine Engineering program was recently changed to a highly intensive two-year format which includes 3 consecutive academic semester, a 4th semester posted as an Engineering cadet on board a commercial vessel, a final academic term, followed by a second marine posting. Following further Transport Canada examinations, graduates will qualify to serve as 4th engineers.Subjects cover practical and theoretical aspects required to pursue a successful career as a marine officer, including marine propulsion plants (diesel and steam), auxiliary systems, vessel stability, electrical systems, fuel combustion, rules & regulations, ship's business and emergency duties. Carleton University

Carleton’s ID program is a blend of Engineering and Architecture training in its first year, followed by intensive, multidisciplinary, research-focused Industrial Design courses and studios. Robert is typical of many of this program’s alumni in having a propensity for using creative problem solving, visual communication and personal leadership skills for cross-disciplinary purposes.
