      Marine Technician (01-2004 – 02-2011)RNZNJoined the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) in 2004 and have gone through the ranks to reach Petty Officer Marine Technician Propulsion Rate. Working on various ships throughout the navy in capacities ranging from ships chippy (repair/replacement of equipment located outside machinery spaces), ships generator maintainer (conducting oil and filter changes as well as condition monitoring of coolant and oil) to tanky (fuel quality control and ensuring ships day tanks have adequate supply). Below are my two latest postings covering my jobs upon promotion to Petty Officer. Small Boats Platform IC (02-2011 – 10-2012)RNZNWorking out of the ship maintenance support department I was in charge of all the maintenance and repairs on the RHIB fleet, allocating resources and materials and liaising with external contractors to ensure the small boats met operational requirements safely and were up to SOLAS standards.I was also instrumental in the planning and ordering phase of the RHIB fleet Arctic upgrade, which has increased the operational range of the J3 RHIBS, so that they can be used in the Antarctic area.Hull and Damage Control Part of ship IC (10-2012 – current)HMNZS Endeavour (RNZN)I am currently the IC in charge of cargo/ballasting operations on board the RNZN’s Fuel Tanker, with a small team we are at the business end of the ships operations and ensure the quality of the Dieso being passed to other ships/navies, also ensuring that the ship is ballasted correctly and comply to MARPOL regulationsI am also in charge of the damage control (DC) equipment including breathing apparatus, fire main/ AFFF systems and Halon, systems and part of the team who implements change to DC practices and ensure the correct training of ship staff to provide an effective response to ship emergencies.
