      I worked as part of an engineering team on three projects. As the team Software Engineer I was responsible for the design, documentation and testing of each project’s software. The main project I worked on during my placement was the development of a programmable transdermal drug delivery device. The project involved mobile development, where a Bluetooth Smart Module was required to communicate with an iOS device using a Bluetooth Low Energy connection. I followed AGILE software development practices to develop an iOS application, using Apple’s IDE Xcode and their programming language Swift, and software for a Bluetooth Smart module, using both XML and BGScript. The other two projects I worked on during my placement were the measuring of physiological characteristics, using a Bluetooth Smart Module to measure the value of the characteristic of interest, this value was then communicated to an iOS device where it could be displayed.       Advisor: Tim Denison• Developed ‘reflexive AI’ machine learning and optimisation algorithms for a neurostimulation device in accordance with regulatory risk mitigation standards (IEC 60601-1-10).• Based on input from clinical and industry stakeholders, I established a machine learning pipeline to streamline configuration and longitudinal deployment of supervised learning algorithms on a resource constrained neurostimulation device to enable adaptive neurostimulation therapy.• Led weekly progress meetings with industry, academic and clinical stakeholders on the development of a novel implantable neurostimulation device for use in four clinical device trial investigations. • Prepared technical documentation for regulatory submission for three clinical device trials. These trials have subsequently received regulatory approval and are now in progress.• I am a named recipient of an NIHR Invention for Innovation Product Development Award focused on the development of adaptive neurostimulation technology for paediatric epilepsy. • For the previous three years I have taught a machine learning summer training course for sixty undergraduate engineering students on how to build replacement parts for the nervous system using neurotechnology.
