Squadron Officer School (SOS) delivers primary developmental education for captains and Department of the Air Force (DAF) civilians. They are exposed to educational and experiential opportunities that challenge them to become more effective leaders for our Air Force.

      The Financial Management Leadership Program (FMLP) is a four-year, two-phase program that competitively selects non-finance officers and provides them the opportunity to gain leadership experience as comptroller squadron commanders.During phase one, selected officers serve two-year internships working in finance and budget at a major command. Officers rotate through the various financial management functions to gain a broad understanding of financial services, budget analysis, and planning and programming. In addition, participants will attend the Professional Financial Management Course and the Defense Financial Management Course at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.Upon successful completion of phase one, participants assume command of a comptroller squadron, lead between 35-75 people, and serve as an administrative control commander to wing staff agencies. Additionally, participants serve as Air Force installation chief financial officers and manage multi-million dollar annual operating budgets. Show less
