      Technical Manager

I was the technical manager as well as the lead technician. During the course of my employment we had installed approximately 185 School Districts in Western Pennsylvania. These installations were either Artisoft Lantastic, Novell Netware 3.15 or 4.1, or Microsoft Windows networking. There were many CD-ROM towers installed as well with shared network products such as Grolier's Encyclopedia, MAS (Magazine Article Summaries), and many others. Some towers had 10-15 CD-ROM drives.I was one of the few technicians in Western PA to be authorized to install Access PA. This was a book sharing system which allowed school districts to share books across the state. Show less

      Senior Software Engineer

Senior Software EngineerI started working with NCR ScanMaster in Visual Basic 3 and was one of the 4 developers that converted the entire project to Visual Basic 6.Gained a lot of experience in Point of Sale systems from back office to register to third party integration. I was one of the primary developers that wrote MANY data conversions from other Point of Sale systems into ScanMaster. These varied from simple txt files to multi-table/file BCD files. Also converted proprietary binary files to usable data files which were then manipulated in Microsoft Access and then imported into ScanMaster.Wrote many controls for ScanMaster including the multimedia control used on the register to display scheduled ads such as holidays or back to school, store specials, and vendor advertisements such as Pepsi commercials. Plays video (with audio), displays predefined images, displays an image based on the UPC scanned, and many other features.Over the course of my career there I learned a lot about Pervasive Btrieve, Microsoft SQL, Crystal Reports, and higher end Visual Basic functions like ActiveX servers and DLL's. Rewrote many functions in the back end by using reusable classes and collections. When Retail Control Systems was purchased by Retalix, I split my time between ScanMaster and Retalix's product called Storeline. On StoreLine, I wrote many interfaces and primarily worked on Back Office functions such as Item Maintenance, Batching, Tax Tables, etc... Show less
