      Project Manager

I was brought in to work on a significant project changing the way the Seasonal department (including gardening) does business in stores. With a significant business expectation, this was a real opportunity to demonstrate the diverse nature of my retail management skills. I coordinated with the store planning and visual merchandising teams who created innovative and forward thinking solutions to our customers’ shopping requirements. Alongside this we re-planned all 350 stores in the estate and worked with the implementing operation teams. My work was then to support the store operations management to excel at delivery throughout the process. Show less

Fundamentally: I make things as easy as possible for those on the front line, to make things as brilliant as possible for our customers. As a creative and insightful manager I develop and implement processes and innovations – in product or procedure – for the Hotel department. We look at routine operations, and new ideas, and ensure their processes, their workflows, are as simple and effective as they can be. I examine the impact first and foremost on the customer experience but always keeping in mind the wider impact on individuals and on the organisation. To support this I can identify the knowledge, skills, and behaviours, required of team members needed within the process and write useful job descriptions or training needs analyses. If required, IT solutions would be examined and briefed accordingly. All new or changed processes are supported before implementation with rigorous business cases where required and presented to an appropriate level within the business. After implementation, suitable KPIs are put in place and clear accountability set out for the new process. Show less Employed as a Commercial Manager to set up the role, including best practices, I also covered the F&B Manager position as required in the fleet. Given the complexity of setting up the Commercial Manager role and the focus it evolved to on projects, it was a logical progression to a wider fleet position (above). In this position my primary metrics were on the revenue generated on the ship to which I was assigned. This was improved considerably during my time, principally through increased engagement with the teams on board and a focus on pricing strategy. As F&B Manager I have been exposed to the detail of the most complexes processes within the Hotel department centred around the ordering, fulfilment and control of warehouse stores.
