      Sound Technician for King County Fair

      For the three days of the 2009 King County Fair, I was a sound and stage technician for the live shows and concerts being held. My duties included setting up amplifiers, sound systems, lighting rigs and soundboards each morning and taking them down each night in case of rain. I also did sound and lights for several different types of shows covering 3 stages and an indoor arena. Some of the acts were local rock bands like SubRocket, The Beatniks and Heart For A Tin Man, magicians, jugglers like Brothers from Different Mothers (who were on America's Got Talent) and even Ed Hume, the famous gardener. I was in charge of general layout for our print paper, acted as scribe for our weekly meetings, and I was a liaison between the EiC and the staff. Another part of the job was keeping the entire gym pristine and clean; this includes dusting, sanitizing cardio machines, vacuuming, mopping and cleaning bathrooms. I also worked in the daycare twice a week.

      As a department manager, my main duties were ordering items, stocking shelves, creating displays and coming up with new ways to sell beauty and health products, organizing products in a logical and presentable order, making sure inventory was in order, and keeping up with expiration dates, price changes, and customer needs. Through my job, I acquired an extensive knowledge of the different products sold in the stores in order to help customers find what works best for them, be it what kind of vitamins and medicine they need or which shampoo and soap works best for their hair and body.Along with managing my department, I also helped with cashiering, customer service and, on occasion, store maintenance.       During my first year as an ALT for the JET Programme, I volunteered to be the Events Editor for the AJET Connect Magazine, a monthly print magazine for JETs (Assistant Language Teachers, Sports Education Advisors, and Coordinators for International Relations for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme) who live and work in Japan. During my tenure, I curated monthly calendars of various events throughout Japan for JETs to learn about and become involved in. Along with creating the calendar, I would recruit other JETs to write about various events they had experienced in their prefectures. I also contributed several articles to the magazine, including a guide to transportation in Japan and my account of event planning with a local christian church in rural Kyushu. Show less
