    • Software Technology Technology (Space), Inc

      Jan 1997 - Jan 1999
      Software Engineer

Created Pre-Contact Antenna, Uplink and Downlink automated tests to validate readiness of Ground Antenna Tracking Stations for actual contact with GPS Satellites. Created an Automated Remote Tracking Station (ARTS) simulator with C programming and TCP/IP network protocol for Operator Software under development in preparation for the GPS ARTS Integration software delivery. This project increased the GPS footprint from four ground stations to sixteen and was the most successful project in GPS History. Simulator was so successful that request was made to patent it. GPS COTS Upgrade (6 Years, 1 Month)Solaris Role Based Access Control (RBAC) API to push user login, role-based control and auditing to Solaris to harden security posture. I assisted with software development, identified all testing requirements and ran all qualifying tests, and performed the planning for the team demo to the Government.GPS System Simulator (2 Years, 9 Months)Fixed the Block IIF Navigational Upload Payload Init process. It was the the deciding factor by the USAF to choose the simulator over alternatives to test the Block IIF Satellite Operating Procedures prior to the launch of SV-1. Praise and accolades were given.GPS AEP Sustainment (1 Year, 2 Months)Solved and averted a repeat of one of the most mission-critical problems in the history of the GPS Program. The problem was hard and the need was soon. A heuristic solution was provided by another engineer with a constrained solution whose constraint was a defined end-of-life. The OCX replacement date preceded this, so it was accepted. But risk concerned me. I tasked myself to find the complete solution and I did. It was accepted and delivered. Looking back, the heuristic would have failed because OCX missed its delivery date.NRO Operations Squadron (2 Years, 3 Months)Provided web-based Satellite Ground Station Command, Control and Telemetry software development with Java. I grew the SPLIT software team from two to twelve in four years, and my changes to software design and processes increased productivity by magnitudes.• I replaced a structured design with an object-oriented design. Fixes and upgrades previously changed in each web page changed to one fix for many pages.• I replaced the existing SVC tool with Git and GitLab. Then taught the team lead branches and software configuration management. Branches allowed concurrent development. Git increased marketability for new hires and saved training costs. Team grew from two to twelve in four years and the software improvements saved company estimated $3.5M labor in five years. Show less
