Deep-drafted ships may be permitted to sail at a restricted vertical distance above the mud-water separation in navigation locations when the bottoms are covered by a thick fluid mud layer, and occasionally ships may even sail through it. As a result, there is a very strong interaction between the ship and the water-mud interface. This project's goal is to provide a numerical approach to analyze the interaction between the water-mud, interface and moving objects in order to better comprehend the physical reality in such situations (in cooperation with KU Leuven and Flanders Hydraulics). Phd researcher

Four years as PhD researcher at the Maritime Technology Division, Ghent University. The research was about the influence of natural mud layers (nautical bottom) on floating moving objects in muddy environments. My primary role was to conduct the experimental validation of a novel CFD tool capable of modelling the mud layer and its interactions with moving floating objects. I also conducted CFD simulations, replicating the experimental conditions to test the capabilities of open-source solvers to deal with these conditions. This research aims to develop a numerical tool to understand better water-mud interactions with floating objects, which could later be used in maritime applications. This research was a collaboration with KU Leuven and Flandres Hydraulics. Show less

      R&d engineer

As a Research Engineer, I focus on the innovative application of distributed optical fiber technologies to enable remote monitoring of dynamic submarine power cables, particularly for offshore wind turbine systems. My key responsibilities involve analyzing temperature and strain signals from distributed optical fiber sensors and providing critical information about the operational performance of these cables. Additionally, I am engaged in advanced modeling of solid and fluid mechanics to simulate the behavior of the cables under various environmental conditions. This comprehensive approach helps optimize the design, reliability, and longevity of submarine power cable systems in the renewable energy sector. Show less
