      Leading Southern African road and earthworks contractor. Currently based at the Two Rivers Platinum Mine, owned, and operated by African Rainbow Minerals.Key responsibilities:• Report to the Site Manager and liaise with the Chief Safety Officer, the Resident Engineer, the Safety Officer, and the Area Manager. One of two Safety Officers on site and responsible for the wellbeing of 180 staff.• Daily inspections and submit reports for site and plant.• Ensure all Supervisors and contractors are accredited correctly before they work on the mine and that they all have safety files and the correct documentation before they can work. Weekly sign-up of three contractors and 15 Supervisors.• Training Supervisors on how to complete mini-risk assessments and communicate daily potential hazards before work.• Client reports including man hours, incidents, and near-misses. • Scheduling employee medicals and induction training as part of the onboarding process.• Educating all employees on the Mine Code of Practice and Safe Operating Procedures.• Completing take-on forms and inspection documentation for all vehicles and machinery.• Running emergency drills.• Investigate accidents and incidents, including recommending remedial actions.• Ordering and issuing PPE and updating the equipment register.Achievements:• No Lost Time Injuries onsite since being appointed.• Compiled and approved a Safety File for the mine.• Organised and gave a presentation on safety, health, environment, and production alignment.• Saved the client money by booking training for appointees to ensure they are ready to work on-site. Show less Based at the Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga.Key responsibilities:• Reported to the Safety Manager and was the only Safety Officer onsite across three projects and responsible for 340 employees in total.• Senior Safety Officer supervising two other officers on two projects and solely responsible for one other.• Liaised with the Project Manager, the Senior Safety Officer, IR, and the Safety Manager.• Ensured all Supervisors and contractors were accredited correctly and that they all had safety files and the correct documentation before they could work.• Weekly sign-up of 18 contractors and 19 Supervisors.• Daily site inspections, including sign-off of safety task analysis documents.• Communicated risk assessments regularly to all employees involved in a task.• Ran awareness training, including writing the manual.• Produced incident and accident reports and conducted investigations, recommended remedial action, and communicated with the client.• Issued PPE and ensured employees wore it when onsite.• Monthly man-hour and injury reports.• Scheduled employee medical assessments.Achievements:• Took over one project when the client (Eskom) expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the safety department.
