  Undergraduate research project performed under the supervision of Dr. Eliane Kalthcuk dos Santos at the Plant Cytogenetics Laboratory.Investigated different populations of the Sisyrinchium palmifolium complex for cytogenetic traits such as chromosome number, karyotypic profile, meiotic behavior, and pollen viability, to help clarify taxonomic questions concerning this taxon.Started a 6-year collaborative relationship with the Iridaceae research group, which resulted in the publication of 4 scientific papers and 12 conference presentations/abstracts.   Masters project supervised by Dr. Eliane Kaltchuk dos Santos at the Plant Cytogenetics Laboratory.Received a CNPq Masters Fellowship at one of the best Brazilian Graduate Programs in Genetics.Analyzed karyotypes and genome sizes from species of Sisyrinchium (Iridaceae) in a phylogenetic context. Carried out meiotic and pollen analyses to assess reproductive success of natural populations.Did a 3-month internship at the Laboratory of Plant Cytogenetics and Diversity in Londrina State University where I solated retrotransposon probes and performed FISH on metaphases of two Sisyrinchium species.Joined two collaboration projects and advised one undergraduate student in assessing the genetic diversity of Cunila fasciculata using ISSR markers.Teaching assistant of Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics for 10 undergraduate Biology students. offering question & answer sections, and a Molecular Biology Lecture with hands-on bench work.Implemented the FISH technique in the laboratory, acquiring and preparing reagents, and establishing the protocol.Acquired skills:- Chromosome banding, in situ fluorescent hybridization (FISH), flow cytometry.- Molecular cloning and bacterial transformation, miniprep plasmid extraction.   Ph.D. project supervised by Dr. André L. L. Vanzela at the Plant Cytogenetics and Diversity Laboratory.Received a CAPES Doctorate Fellowship in Brazil and a CAPES Doctoral Exchange Fellowship for an international research internship in the Davison Life Sciences Complex at the University of Georgia in the United States.Assessed karyotype differentiation and genome size variation in Rhynchospora (Cyperaceae), and contrasted it against the phylogeny of this holocentric group. Studied genomic transposable element composition of several Cyperaceae species. This project was published in Frontiers in Plant Science (2020).Guest lecturer in a Cytotaxonomy course for 20 Botany graduate students. Teaching assistant of General Cytogenetics for 30+ second-year Biology students, giving theoretical and practical, hands-on lectures.Co-organized and gave a workshop on cytogenetics and cytogenomics at a local science communication event for graduate and undergraduate students, for two consecutive years. Skills: - Teaching and training of masters and undergraduate students.- Lab management, including budgeting, purchasing, inventory, and organization of lab supplies.- Writing projects, lab reports, grant proposals, and scientific papers.- Public speaking: projects and qualifications-exams presentation, lab meetings, poster presentation in conferences and classes taught. Received a doctoral exchange scholarship for a 6-month internship abroad (CAPES/PDSE).Employed large Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets from 35 Rhynchospora species to assemble chloroplast genomes, perform phylogenetic analysis, and assess their transposable element profiles.
