Graduated with honours as a water engineer after completing a thesis in coastal engineering that examined the impact of wave grouping in wave height development - an important consideration in the design of coastal structures as the horizontal compression's and decompression's of energy occurring in sets of waves can stabilise individual waves as they shoal, allowing them to develop in to shallower water and achieve greater wave height to water depth ratios. Nov 2005 - Oct 2006
      Undergraduate engineer

3 months of industry training turned in to 12 months of highly valuable experience, launching my career in urban water management. I learnt flood modelling from the ground up - profiling catchment areas, assigning rainfall and runoff coefficients, defining boundary and flow conditions, simulating rainfall events, preparing flood maps and reporting to clients. An early introduction to consulting and the importance of technical excellence, particularly to a boutique consultancy.

    • Aecom

      Nov 2006 - Dec 2012
      Water engineer

After a start in hydrology and flood modelling moved to a large consultancy and expanded in to water supply and wastewater management. Learnt the principles of infrastructure planning and design through a broad range of network modelling, master planning, concept design and design for construction projects. 6 years at AECOM provided a strong insight in to the fundamentals of consulting - winning wok and profitably delivering it - and the context in which infrastructure projects are pursued.

      Jul 2017 - Dec 2023
      Associate engineer - water

I project and design managed feasibility studies and businesses cases for large new bulk water supply schemes in typically regional areas focused on irrigation. I also seconded into Sunwater to manage risk assessment programs across asset portfolios.A detailed summary of my most recent Detailed Business Case which involved full time work over 3 years is provided in my resume along with a brief overview of my Sunwater secondment where I managed the Comprehensive Risk Assessment (CRA) Project.

      Jan 2024 - now
      Principal engineer - water

I am a civil engineer with extensive water sector experience in both consulting and client side roles. I have broad lifecycle expertise in the planning, design and ongoing management of water infrastructure and a natural aptitude for project management and business case development.Collaboration and versatility are strengths and I offer a strong record in project management and effectively engaging stakeholders to drive outcomes. Key skills and expertiseProject management – I manage complex multi-disciplinary projects with a range of inter dependencies that often extend beyond engineering, environmental and planning domains.Design management – I typically fulfil both project and design management roles to guide the infrastructure solution with coherence across the major work streams.Business case development – Evolving business cases from a service need to the next investment stage is a particular strength which often requires being both consultant and client in practice. This includes having a vision for the solution, scoping and budget allocation, field investigations, project definition, impact assessment, and stakeholder / Government engagement to reach a proposition.Risk assessment – An early foundation in flooding risks and performance risks led to broad technical, environmental, social, financial and implementation risk assessment expertise through feasibility studies and business cases.Infrastructure optioneering – Wide ranging experience in water and wastewater servicing, bulk water storage, water transmission and distribution, wastewater treatment and reuse, stormwater harvesting and irrigation schemes.Water planning – Experience throughout the hydrological cycle with expertise in demand and capacity assessment for water supply systems.Design and specification – Technical review for hydraulic and civil design for pipelines/pumping stations and detailed design of wastewater treatment and reuse schemes.
