      Youth Development Volunteer

I served for two years as a Youth Development Volunteer in La Paz, Honduras. My principal project was the Teaching English and Methodology (T.E.A.M.) project. I served as the project coordinator and led the editing of the first T.E.A.M. English book and wrote most of the second T.E.A.M. English book. These books were meant to assist public primary school teachers, who were compelled to teach English classes but had few materials. I also trained a cohort of English teachers using these materials over the course of my service. Additional projects included teacher training workshops with Educatodos, an adult/alternative education program, organizing events with the Ministry of Youth, and coaching girl's basketball and youth baseball. This support allowed ELL students to achieve academically in an English-language environment. • Co-planned and co-taught a variety of content areas, including Social Studies, Language Arts, and Science. Built collaborative working relationships with a focus on how to best serve students’ needs. • Served on two WASC Certification committees (2010-2011, 2012-2013).
