  During my first year working at SF State, I discovered my love for coaching while providing paraprofessional counseling (academic, career, and personal) to undergraduate students from the College of Health & Human Services. In my second year, I continued to develop my coaching skills and provided counseling services to undeclared majors. By my third year, I was promoted again and co-managed conduct and community development for 2 residence halls.While at SF State (the first time; I was recruited back to the institution in 2016), I successfully developed and implemented more than 80 educational programs, social events, and training sessions. Topics spanned diversity, social justice, community development, conflict resolution, crisis response, mental health, and self-care.One of my most prized accomplishments was the creation of the workshop “That’s So Gay & Other Phrases You Shouldn’t Use,” which received the NRHH Diversity Program of the Month Award at the national level.   This leadership role had a lot of moving pieces. I was on the ground working with students, while also supporting long-term strategy and campus-wide initiatives, all in the name of student success.In a nutshell, I oversaw the daily operations of 3 apartment complexes that housed 800 students. I orchestrated resident mental health concerns, social events, facility issues, conduct concerns, 3 AM phone calls, and a few fires and floods. I also led a fabulous team of 23 direct reports.One of the most rewarding aspects of the role was coordinating complex case management and one-to-one counseling for a portfolio of 'Students of Concern' (students who had been hospitalized, experienced suicidal ideation and substance use disorder, etc.). I ensured these students received the support they needed to succeed in school and life.Similar to my previous experience with SF State (I also worked at the institution from 2011 to 2014), I used my public speaking skills to design and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and retreats.
