      Being a trainee lawyer in the criminal law section of the office of the attorney general involved closely shadowing prosecution attorneys to observe court procedures, analysing evidence to assess how any evidence may be applied to the facts of a case and attending and taking notes at a trial by jury. The day to day tasks involved reviewing case files of evidence and taking notes at court sittings.

      My first two years at the firm required me to rotate amongst different departments within the firm in order to gain at least six months experience in each department. I started my rotations with the International Banking and Finance team which involved working closely with more senior lawyers to assist with financing transactions. Since the majority of the clients were banks, my role involved reviewing finance documents and drafting and reviewing the relevant security agreements that were required in terms of the financing documents. After a year of banking, I joined the ship registration and litigation department for another seven months. My work within this department mainly consisted of preparing the relevant documentation required to register merchant vessels as well as pleasure yachts, assisting clients with the sale or purchase of yachts and vessels, setting up shipping companies and maintaining these types of companies and employment issues relating to the crew on board vessels.I formed part of Ganado Advocates' corporate department where the main focus was to assist clients with civil, corporate and commercial matters.
