  Physio/OT/Speech therapy assistant

  I was offered the opportunity to work in a special needs school for 4-19 year olds. I was able to work closely alongside students with cerebral palsy, ASD, and a variety of behaviour problems. Aswell as learning how to use equipment associated with having a disability e.g. walkers and hoists. While being at the placement I learnt how to think out the box to communicate with some students in order for physiotherapy to be practised.

  Ghana Volunteer Project

  Physiotherapy Internship

  I undertook in a 2 month placement as part of my gap year. This allowed me to gain experience with qualified sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapist. While in Ghana I worked alongside the former African Champions League winners and one time FIFA Club World Cup competitors (The Black Stars). While in Ghana I was given the opportunity to travel within Ghana and experience the culture and different opportunities. I also worked in a school aimed at under privileged children.

  I decided to work within mental health and therefore took up the position within a Dementia care home. This challenged me with how to communicate successfully and how to deal with the demands of the illness an the behaviour.
