  Junior Software Engineer at Aricent South Africa, Ferndale.This position gave me a solid grounding and varied experience. I worked with very skilled colleeagues on varied and interesting projects:I worked on a retail banking internet portal for one of the major South African Banks, this was a very big project with many team players. Asp .net (C#) web application, built on an MVC framework - Our company developed the front end, while the Bank's own team developed the Mainframe backend. My first project at Aricent was support of Hewlett Packard's Inkjet printer testing station software (used in Corvalllis, Oregon - United States) . This was very interesting work and also meant that I needed to aquire good database skills, as it made use of a variety of database server applications (Microsoft and Informix). I also had to liaise with the clients extensively via electronic means. I was also involved with a cellphone based application written in Java, this was in the healthcare/financial arena, was involved not only with coding but extensively with documentation and test plan development, I worked closely with the testing department.   My current responsibilities are quite varied as we are not a very big team - I am required to be quite versatile. Most of our software is either ASP.net in C# or C# desktop applications, we usually make use of Microsoft SQL server as our database backend. I also have experience in using ODBC as a method of accessing a Microsoft SQL server 2008 databases. I do quite a bit of software maintenance as well as development of new applications. This means that I am also exposed to PHP applications with a MySql database, however I do prefer the .net environment. I am responsible for fielding support calls relating to our custom software solutions (PHP and ASP C# .net). This involves liaising with customers, making code improvements where required, and also developing new software. As part of my goals I have to perform my duties making use of the correct methodologies, I also have to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and attend to issues in a timeous manner. I also regularly create project documentation, including UML design specifications, as well as, user documentation and manuals. Many of the custom software solutions integrate with the SYSPRO ERP system. SYSPRO has a custom interface called e.net which exposes methods via Microsoft Web Services. E.net makes extensive use of XML for passing data. I am also responsible for internal IT support, outsourcing when the need arises. This includes maintenance of an IBM ESX 3.0 server, which has a LINUX-based OS and runs several virtual machines. These emulate the customer’s environment and are used for software testing purposes.   I assist with WMS (Warehouse Management System) implementations and upgrades. Being based in our Customer Support Support department, I provide support for our WMS as well as basic SYSPRO support.   Worked as Systems Analyst at ChainEX, a digital asset exchange.
