      Civil Leadership

      YALI Africa is a program that focuses on Transformational leadership for African youth through the use of holistic interactive simulations and mentorship approaches. YALI Africa provides core training in contemporary African issues in 3 different tracks of studies. I am on the Civil Leadership Track and this inaugural Cohorts brings together 225 Young African Leaders on one platform with experienced mentors and facilitators.

      The Advocates Training Program provided me with the essential practical and professional skills required in practicing the legal profession. The training which is conducted in clinical basis involved a lot of group work in "firms"where legal problems and issues are thoroughly discussed. My analytical and presentation skills were developed and were important in enabling me become a successful Advocate.

      The High School equipped me with the foundational knowlege and skills that was instumental in shaping both my accademic and career path. During this period, I was a dedicated student who performed well in her academics and was the leader of the scouting club. During my tenure, the club significantly progressed and several activities were conducted including participation in the Founders day in Nyeri where the club mounted several guards of honors.

      This programme deals with the theoretical and practical understanding of international human rights law in its broader political context, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between human rights and conflict resolution. The program also explores the role of human rights globally and the international and domestic machinery that promotes and enforces rights. Focus is also placed on how academic debates connect to the practice of human rights.

The programme was highly integrated in context and practical by remaining close to actual business practice. It aspired me to develop management and leadership skills, operate effectively in a multicultural environment and to adapt quickly to changing social, political, legal and economic conditions.

      Experienced first-hand application of the Law and conducted general legal services that included judicial filling and updating of court files with the magistrate's. I also drafted judgments, rulings and summons, noting to use precedence while conducting legal research on emerging jurisprudence and case law. I interestingly witnessed mentioning of cases in prisons as well as attended proceeding at the constitutional court and understood the special nature of proceedings involving the use of audio-visual forms of evidence. I further managed the database of court cases as well as all pleadings while monitoring the progress of cases in coordination with external lawyers. Another key role was security documentation and debt recoveries not forgetting the creation of legal awareness which was a core component of the role.

      My role involved supporting the development and implementation of the Scholars program where I primary identifed and shaped key features of the Program that could be durable and replicable across successive cohorts. I also assisted in shaping a number of projects with a focus on; student support and wellbeing, employability as well as transitions. Conducted a work-based placement as a precondition for my Master’s Degree (LLM) award in Human Rights. I carried out research on local peace agreements and processes in South Sudan while factoring in international human rights standards and the correlations of these localized processes with the national peace process. I also looked at the role of women, as well as the role of traditional and religious leaders in the peace process. The transformative leadership program is a key component of the highly competitive Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at the University and provides me with Knowledge, exposure and skill to be come a creator of positive change in myself, others and the society. Through workshops and interactive sessions, the program equips me with new dynamics in leadership that are absolutely necessary in the contemporary world.

Also coordinate and liaise with internal counterparts while fostering relationships and supporting partnership-building with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions. Show less Supporting the Gender and protection Unit on issues around civil documentation. while conducting Legal research on various arising issues and specifically looking into protection monitoring during registration and using the referral pathway to ensure the EVIs and PSNs are protected. Through the WFP MegaMatcher platform, analyze beneficiary data by administering potential biometric duplicates through manual adjudication and deduplication. Thus assisting the deduplication engine when it cannot make an absolute decision on whether an identity(beneficiary) is a duplicate or not. Through the adjudication function, beneficiaries are prevented from double dipping hence saving funds and allowing targeting of more beneficiaries. Show less
