      May 2000 - Apr 2001
      City Management Intern

    • Sandy City

      Sept 2001 - Jul 2006
      HR Management Analyst (Generalist)

In this role I covered a wide variety of HR responsibilities including recruitment, employee relations, development and training, policies and procedures, compensation and benefits, and data analysis. In one project I addressed employee turnover by implementing a reporting system to collect turnover statistics and conducting exit interviews to understand causes. I was able to present the final report to the city administration as a tool for change and improvement. Another accomplishment was that I created better employee trust in the HR department by starting “Lunch with HR,” an informal employee focus group. This resulted in improved open enrollment presentations, adjustments in the wellness program, and clarification of policies for management and employees. I also managed recruitment for the city including job description creation, job audits, analyzing resource needs with department heads, advertising positions, screening applicants, conducting interviews and assessment centers, monitoring legal compliance, and providing new employee orientation.I also created and taught supervisor training workshops focusing on needs of the organization and resulting in better prepared supervisors. Workshops included: hiring best practices, project management, and team-building. Show less

      Sept 2008 - now

I direct the HRD department which delivers live and virtual training, provides internal consulting services, administers and creates online training, and manages BYU’s employee wellness program. One of my main roles is creating and delivering live and virtual training via workshops, lectures, keynote addresses, and retreats to the 2500+ administrative and staff employees. I have set up and delivered 8 different corporate training workshops as well as created or revised dozens of other in-house training modules. This past year I have also successfully shifted our training efforts to be able to deliver them virtually. This has typically included 12-20 full workshops, 30+ smaller training sessions and multiple team-building exercises each year. A sample of the most recent in-house training I have created include workshops on Unconscious Bias, Stress Management, How to Create Goals that Stick, How to Lead Remote Teams, Connecting and Building Relationships, Creating a Growth Mindset, Helping Supervisors Embrace Their Roles as Supervisors.I also provide consulting services to campus departments which could be almost anything from mission statement workshops to team-building activities, to providing 360 evaluations and other assessments. I routinely create customized training solutions to meet employee relations and management needs.I enjoy working with the other HR leaders on campus to think strategically and coordinate policies and delivery of HR services for campus. One of the unique opportunities I've had in this job is to teach a university class called Leadership and Management Skills to 40+ students each year. Show less I provided HR consulting services to academic colleges on campus such as: advising departments on creating job descriptions, posting jobs for recruitment, creating salary packages, providing guidance on policies, assisting with reorganizations, interpreting employment law, advising on management and employee relations issues, and answering general questions. In this role I was the HR point of contact for 11 colleges and 10 academic offices representing about 2000 employees. I felt most successful in creating a partnership with deans, directors, and managers in colleges and departments to assist them in meeting their human resources goals. I was also able to consult with multiple departments about re-organizing personnel and job functions for succession planning as well as addressing routine employee-relations issues. Show less In this position I provided instructor-led training on leadership and management skills to employees, faculty, and students across campus. Conducted needs assessment, designed, and delivered customized training for university departmentsI also provided consulting services to various departments on campus that included team-building and facilitation activities as well as larger consulting projects. Examples include leading a project for the academic department to assist in deciding whether or not to keep a program where enrollment had decreased. I met with stakeholders to decide the scope of the project, conducted interviews to gather data, compiled the information into an initial report, and presented the findings to department faculty, who decided to suspend the program. I was also able to assist another department in gathering qualitative data on faculty engagement and department culture. Conducted faculty interviews, categorized and organized results, and presented findings to the liaison committee. One of my biggest accomplishments in this role was when I assumed leadership responsibilities for this department for almost two years when the director left during a hiring freeze. I was able to not only step into the leadership role, but also maintain the prior level of service to campus while not being able to fill our missing position. Show less
