Thesis: Microglia RAGE exacerbates neuroinflammation during Alzheimer's disease, but is required for microglia to promote visual recognition Diabetes Research ProgramLaboratory of Ann Marie Schmidt, MDI’m currently training at NYU Medical School conducting research on dichotomous roles for the Receptor for Advanced Glycation Endproducts (RAGE) in microglia. For this work, I have developed novel mouse models, optimized cell isolation and RNA Sequencing techniques, applied mouse behavioral assessments, and worked collaboratively with teams ranging from preclinical imaging to bioinformatics, metabolism and neuroscience, and beyond. By leveraging such a multi-pronged approach, I have contributed to our knowledge of inflammation, visual cognition, metabolism, and how microglia shape neural circuits. My training is funded by an NRSA-F31 training fellowship from the National Institute of Aging at the National Institute of Health and the rest of the work is funded through the Alzheimer's Association.
