  DO SAY GAY: A Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Opinions Towards Homosexual Literature In Public Libraries - 2023This paper examines the surge in legislation attempting to eliminate LGBTQ+ literature from public school libraries nationwide and its repercussions on educators at elementary, middle, and high school levels. Using 2022 General Social Survey (GSS) data, a linear regression on descriptive statistics identifies demographics of individuals advocating for the removal of LGBTQ+ books. This insight aids in pinpointing students who may require support and indicates areas where positive LGBTQ+ outreach is essential. After quantitative analysis, extensive qualitative interviews with teachers and librarians delve into the nuanced impact of the public discourse on their classrooms and daily responsibilities.OBSERVING INTERGROUP TIES WITHIN STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS WITH OPPOSING VIEWS - 2023This research proposal focuses on investigating the impact of intergroup contact theory on tie formation in student organizations characterized by high within-group value homophily and between-group value heterophily, prevalent in large state universities with low network density. The study aims to test hypotheses suggesting that positive intergroup contact leads to more and enduring intergroup ties under optimal conditions. Additionally, it explores changes in the strength of in-group ties within the coalitions. Utilizing surveys, network visualization, and longitudinal regression, the project aims to offer insights into the applicability of intergroup contact theory and its potential to mitigate group animus in diverse perspectives.
