  I worked on two projects for three and a half months. The projects were related to Lubricants (focused on Conveyor Lubricants) and Porous Surface Disinfection (focused on surfaces of porous foods like dairy, poultry and red meat).Studied spoilage and biofilm formation mechanisms by various microbes, especially in Psychrotrophic conditions, and determined the effective disinfectants and disinfection methods. Also looked into novel physico-chemical methods for the disinfection of food surfaces.Also studied food-grade disinfectants for their activity and effects on food aesthetics.New techniques of disinfection were also searched for, and their application was studied.The Project on Lubricants dealt with knowing the mechanism and different regimes of lubrication and the interaction of Lubricants and additives on the Stainless Steel Conveyor Belts for glass bottles as the transport objects.   I worked on an experimental research project in the Sanitary Engineering Department at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. The project was focused on the removal of Arsenic from groundwater, as it is toxic and carcinogenic.Arsenic is a carcinogenic and toxic element naturally found in groundwater. The concentrati.on of arseniccan vary due to natural presence and human activities. Due to its toxicity, it is extremely important to remove it from the groundwater, to make it potable. The current governmental limit of arsenic in drinking water is 10ug/L in the Netherlands, but it is going to be reduced in future. Hence, the main aim of the complete PhD project is to reduce the concentration to 1ug/L. The removal of arsenic is seen to be enhanced in the presence of MnO2, as As(V) can readily adsorb on MnO2 leading to arsenic removal. The arsenic can be oxidized via chemical and biological pathways. The chemical pathway includesthe oxidation on MnO2, in turn reducing Mn(IV) to Mn(II) while the biological oxidation is caused by the metabolism of As(III) by bacteria which are ubiquitous in groundwater. Along with As(III), other ions like Mn(II), Fe(II) and NH4+ are also present in groundwater. The aim of this honours project was to study the effects of the presence of Mn(II) with As(III) in groundwater, on the oxidation and removal of arsenic, and study the most probable nature of oxidation of As(III) on MnO2 coated sand taken from rapid sand filters.   The work involved managing about 65 new tenants starting their rental contracts with DUWO in one of their housings. The tasks included contacting each person about their arrival details and also providing them with sufficient step-by-step information about travel from Amsterdam Schipol airport to their accommodation in Delft. Upon the arrival of the tenant, it was required to give them a tour of their accommodation and hand over the keys to the apartment. Along with this, general information about the locality and public transport was also provided to them. Show less

  The role included coaching and supervising a team of 10-12 new MSc students at the TU Delft from all around the world. The main aim was to help the students smoothly settle down in a new country and make them aware of the study culture and the university as a whole.Another goal was for us (The Coaches) to be their first friends and mentors in their initial days, which is of crucial importance!I am happy to be associated with the Introduction Programme and enjoyed being with the students and helping them with all their questions about the university services and in general about the Netherlands too.   Every year some of the second-year MSc Chemical Engineering students are encouraged to apply as mentors to the incoming MSc full-time and exchange students at the TU Delft. The mentor must be an easy point of contact for the students and help them with academic or non-academic issues. Another aim is to help them realize the importance of personal skills like empathy, inclusivity, and authenticity along with helping them understand the importance of cultural differences and teamwork, especially in an international environment.The mentors are also required to help students mingle well with each other and their studies, by hosting regular lunch meetings, and getting and providing some updates about life at the university.   Studying the stabilization of well-dispersed Pt on different support materials for use in high-temperature catalytic applications. The internship involved comparing the effects of different synthesis methods and assessing their effects on Pt dispersion. A round experience from catalyst syntheses, characterizations, and right up to the reactor tests was gained, along with extensive collaborations with scientists and knowledge experts to gain insights and support in critical data analysis. Worked as a full-time intern at the high-throughput lab of the Core R&D Chemical Science Group at Dow Terneuzen. Show less
