    • SkyGeo Netherlands B.V.

      Apr 2010 - Oct 2010
      Remote Sensing Engineer

The company: SkyGeo (formerly Hansje Brinker BV.) aims to find commercial applications for the so-called Peristent-Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar technique (PS-InSAR). This remote sensing technique enables one to measure vertical land displacements of whole countries, accurate to the meter horizontal, and mm-level vertical. SkyGeo’s first application found was safety monitoring of the largest Dutch dike systems. Role overview: improving the efficiency of doing "runs": purchase and process stacks of satellite radar images (~TBytes) on the university's computational cluster (128 nodes), so as to produce the relevant PSI-data. In the end decided that the MATLAB code base should be ported to Python+C89. Skills used: - MATLAB- Python- Linux (Ubuntu)- Google Maps API- high-performance parallel computing on 128-node Beowulf cluster Show less

    • Cosine Research bv.

      Jan 2011 - Dec 2012
      Junior Scientist and Software Engineer

      - Made hardware for use on the International Space Station: the NightPod. This is a camera tracking system, cancelling the orbital motion of the station, allowing normal SLR cameras to take long-exposure photographs of the Earth's surface. My responsibilities lay mostly in developing the control algorithms (prototype in MATLAB, implementation in C++03), and the software controlling the OLED display and buttons, stepper motor, and Nikon camera (C89/C++03). - Mission geometry/analysis/design for a feasibility study of using SPEX on the JUICE mission. My task was to determine whether the SRON developed Spectro-polarimeter for Planetary Exploration instrument (SPEX, at the time only suited for Earth-bound observations), should be changed at design level if it was to deliver valuable science products if used on the upcoming JUICE mission (exploration of Jupiter's major moons). I used several ready-made tools (Cosine's HipSim, developed in C++03) in conjunction with a simulation environment specific to the Jovian system and JUICE mission I wrote (MATLAB). Show less

    • LuxSpace Sárl

      Jan 2013 - May 2018
      Software Engineer

      - Lead developer of the SVF/DSS simulator for the upcoming EDRS-C satellite. Development is done in C and Simulink with the Real-time Workshop, support tools are written in MATLAB, DOS batch. Other major components are software testing, requirement engineering and technical documentation, which is in strict accordance with the ECSS 40C and Q80 standards.- Developing computer models of various satellite subsystems. These are mostly developed in Simulink with major parts in C (MEX API), support tools in MATLAB. Show less

    • Ispace, inc.

      May 2018 - Aug 2018
      Spacecraft Software Engineer

ispace, a very young and extremely ambitious startup, definitely has got the right stuff to pull off what they set out to do: land their rovers on the Moon to help build Moon Valley. Officially I was a software engineer, but as is common in startups, I ended up doing a whole host of other things: Mission Analysis, Simulation, and setting up a DevOps environment. And various other things. For personal reasons, I ended up working here for only 3 months. But make no mistake, despite appearances, their pace is *extremely* high and the average workload is fully commensurate with that. This working environment somehow "clicked" for me, allowing me to accomplish quite a bit in those 3 months: - wrote a framework for an operational simulator covering the first 2 pioneering missions- performed a detailed analysis of the illumination conditions for a broad spectrum of possible trajectories to help select the appropriate battery size and mission plan- assisted in the design and and validation of various major aspects of the high-level mission analysis (trajectories/orbits, landing site selection, etc.) - started setting up a basic infrastructure to bring modern DevOps practices to the engineering disciplines outside of software engineering Show less
