Bernlef appeared in the literary review 'Ploughshares' (The Black Dog) in 1982 and in the English-languages magazine 'The Paper' in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Bernlef, J. "The Black Dog." Trans. Frank Scimone. In Ploughshares 8.4 (1982): 170-75. ("De zwarte hond," from Anekdotes uit een zijstraat, 1978). I was the first to translate letters by Etty Hillesum into English. They appeared in 1981 in the former English-language publication 'The Paper' (Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
