    • Quaker Valley School District, Sewickley, PA

      Sept 1968 - Jun 2004
      Teacher/Librarian (Cybrarian)

Served as a teacher in all elementary grade levels for one of the best school districts (Quaker Valley) in the United States, located in Sewickley, PA, USA. Piloted and pioneered many projects for the University of Pittsburgh and the State of Pennsylvania introducing email, the WWW, "Voyage of the Mimi", etc. For fifteen years I was the Gifted Teacher for the High Achievers' Program where my students & I won many Computer, History, & Democracy National Awards & Honors for integrating the computer into the curriculum. When the Internet came to the School Libraries, I was asked to take the lead as a "Cybrarian", helping students and teachers alike learn the latest technologies available to them. Led many special projects at school-wide assemblies, most notably, our Veterans Day Programs, Black History, National Library Month activities, and "Welcome WOZ!" Library Pep Rally. I loved my "job" and co-workers, the students, their parents, and the great community which continues to value EDUCATION of its students as a number one (#1) priority. Show less

      Mar 2010 - now
Chief Learning Officer, Galvanizing Mentor helping others Thrive & Flourish

Like those brave sailors of old who climbed the tall, wooden masts to the top of the ship always on the lookout for land or new horizons, I love being a "Crowsnester." It's the teacher-researcher-librarian in me. I am consistently on the look-out for new and effective strategies to raise learning levels across all age levels, this time, World Wide! As a retired Teacher with 40+ years of experience in all areas (elementary to graduate levels), I'm passionately excited about the many possibilities with mobile learning in education, where the www means Whatever, Whenever, Wherever and with WHOM ever, 24/7! Exciting Content+ Energy + Enthusiasm= Excellence in Education. Like Wayne Gretsky, I want to skate to where the puck is going, not to where it is now. How can we collaborate? As a Chief Learning Officer of the world, I'm here to help manage change (Change Agent) and revitalization during these transformative times for the betterment of all (Free Agent). My goal is concrete. I want to be a galvanizing mentor, helping everyone THRIVE and FLOURISH.My Crows-nesting abilities come from various sources: something I've read in the morning newspapers, or from the rare occasions I watch TV; from leading research materials ranging from fairy tales/ Native American myths to scientific quarterly reports, mainly from the Internet finding other Life-Long Learners who share similar goals. Those connections I've met throughout the years share that same passion for learning, and help energize me. I know that everyday we're becoming better equipped, enabled, empowered, and engaged. What we're really doing as a knowledge group is becoming experienced "emancipated experts" helping shape the future.....sharing information and inspiring others to excellence as a Passion, and positively modeling change. I also work on my THREE websites that help keep my brain actively alert and engaged, promoting educational opportunities in a supportive atmosphere. Ready to network? Show less

4/3/2018Unfortunately, I left this app expire. But this is what it was all about! On Sept. 28, 2012, our educational story app "Power of Three" for the iPad, came to fruition! If you are a teacher or parent/grandparent of elementary school age children, you would have definitely wanted to try this creativity app as it was free and taught great fluency and flexibility skills in a storybook way.Although officially "retired" after 40 years of successful public school teaching, thanks to the World Wide Web, I had this wonderful opportunity to bring a renewed level of Energy, Enthusiasm and Excitement for higher-order thinking skills to a whole new realm of learners. This app helped students realize higher order thinking skills of Fluency & Flexibility and Divergent Thinking. I'm so grateful to my wonderful international friends, Dilip Kumar (GreatMinds-Media) and Ayesha Deane (Illustrator) of India, for being with me throughout the project! They did an outstanding job for me, and I highly recommend their work to anyone.Since December, 2017, this app is no longer available, but the website with subsequent creative activities still exist that might work for you! I could no longer keep up with the changes necessary. http://www.mimbizic.com Show less
