These ranged from designingan aircraft and understanding how pilots control the plane, to calculating the probability of setting upa successful base on the Moon, as well as understanding the basics of rocket science.   Assistant and Researcher for Anna Firth MP

  Thanks to this riveting and profoundly informative work experience, I gained an insight into the work of a Parliamentary Researcher and Assistant for a Member of the UK Parliament, including the high demands of this crucial role and the key skills required for success.Whilst working for Anna Firth, the MP for Southend West, I was fortunate enough to complete a wide variety of distinct tasks, ranging from writing campaign responses to carefully crafting press releases to highlight successes and introduce upcoming projects in the constituency. As well as that, I was involved in drafting responses to the queries and concerns raised by local residents, explaining why certain decisions were made and what further changes were due to take place to rectify potential issues. Furthermore, I was able to attend a meeting of the Home Affairs Committee, witnessing the fascinating scrutiny process that is undertaken by Departmental Select Committees to hold the government to account. In this case, the committee was examining HMPO's conduct to determine the primary reasons behind delays in processing passport applications, as well as the subsequent political and economic consequences of such a delay. Similarly, I was also able to attend a number of debates in the House of Commons, including the urgent discussion regarding the new trade deal with Australia, the Sir David Amess Adjournment Debate and ministerial questions to Steve Barclay, Ben Wallace and Anne-Marie Trevelyan. This allowed me to enhance my skills in swiftly extracting key information, whilst also aiding me in acquiring a deeper understanding of the work done by governmental departments and the consequences of their policies in a wider political and economic context.I improved my quantitative analysis skills by exploring and locating patterns in data extracted from surveys, to ensure that our team arrived at balanced, data-driven decisions that maximised the welfare of Southend West residents.   An extremely insightful experience into the HSBC Procurement Department at 8 Canada Square, where I had the pleasure of listening to numerous professionals within the field of procurement to discover the global procurement structure, strategy and deal negotiation tactics.Upon learning more about the HSBC Procurement function, it was incredibly exciting to pitch our team's ideas regarding customer retention and engagement for a variety of business ideas to over 30 Procurement professionals at HSBC. The feedback received was very positive, and I am delighted to say that some of our ideas were decided to be adopted by the Procurement Department at HSBC.The online part of the experience focused on learning more about different divisions within HSBC, Presentation Skills, Personal Branding and numerous more incredibly useful skills.   An incredibly insightful work experience which enabled me to truly understand the work of an MP at local and national levels. From campaigning across the constituency to gather opinion on salient issues to engaging in political debates with Anna Firth MP and her team, the experience further enhanced my communication, public speaking and negotiation skills. Consequently, I am now able to clearly and comfortably convey my thoughts to people of distinct political opinions to my own.Most notably, it was a privilege to once again be invited to assist Anna's Parliamentary Research Team in responding to constituents' queries, conducting research via the PRU to draft official responses, and discussing the key local objectives that are due to be achieved prior to the upcoming General Election. Moreover, I was fortunate enough to improve my understanding of the work completed by the CCHQ (Conservative Campaign Headquarters) in influencing British media to gain greater success for the Conservative Party in elections. It was absolutely fascinating to listen to the three members of the CCHQ Research, Media and Executive teams about their journeys, roles and projections for the next election.The experience culminated with an visit to 10 Downing Street to see the work of the Prime Minister's Office first-hand.
