      As an interim project manager I had a number of workpackages responsible for taking the technical requirements agreed by the programme and developing a program of work. Estimating the project budget (capital and human resource), negotiating this budget in budget reviews, agreeing realistic major milestones with the programme and supply chain, building a detailed plan that took each project from component design concept selection and development, production supply chain design, product test and validation to production ready achieving the required rate and quality. I managed off-site and on-site resource in total over £5M+ with resources from UK, USA and Japan. I also drove down the component Unit Cost (learner to full production) while ensuring production rates were met on time. I lead design and programme reviews when significant milestones dates were achieved and change boards when significant change to the scope was required outside the project limits. Show less

      Interim Project Manager

      This was a workpackage to carry out a feasibility study to extend the time on wing a mature jet engine with a significant benefit for every shop visit postponed or cancelled. I lead a cost reduction project team reporting to the client (Rolls Royce) Programme Manager. I took this workpackage on after it had been running late for some time. I took steps to understand what was causing the delay (change of scope, a lack of skilled resource and a lack of governance). I then took action to remedy this by securing additional engineering support in country and securing limited offshore resource. I rebaselined the project schedule estimating the offload resources required to complete the workpackage within the fixed timebox. I agreed more robust governance of the task with the Client Programme Manager and key stakeholder and sponsor Belcan’s programme manager.Monitoring the budget weekly with I managed on-shore and off-shore resource spend ensuring worked booked to my account could be clearly identified to an activity on the schedule.Client-side I focussed on the customer by being responsive to any further changes to the scope of the project by securing gated reviews to discuss and agree. This allowed any scope changes to be clearly funded by a revision to the workscope. I gave a clear line of sight presenting progress to major and minor milestones and working with Belcan’s programme manager on the load and commitment for those tasks. Show less

      This assignment was to provide the Project Management Director with interim Programme Management support to set up and initially run a Transformation Project Management Office within a new Global Business Service within Rolls Royce and creation of new Project Management Standards for the new Rolls Royce Project Management Academy.The terms of reference for the PMO was to provide portfolio management for strategic transformation programmes and projects, establishing governance, creating dashboards, creating milestone plans based on the GBS strategic business plan, linking up with transformational activities running in other parts of the business and running weekly programme meetings and presenting the PMO dashboard monthly to GBS board. Also provided PM coaching & guidance through established standards, methodologies, processes & tools and professional development. As part of the scope of the PMO I also worked with subject matter experts to create an operations reporting process that allowed each function head within GBS to report on financial and transformational status with the Director of GBS. This role involved stakeholder management with senior managers and directors within GBS. I also had a stand alone role to monitor progress on the headcount transformation project within GBS reporting to the Director of GBS and the Rolls Royce Global HR Director. The second part of this assignment was to own a workstream within the new Rolls Royce PM Academy to create twelve standalone Project Management standards to be used by the global PM community within Rolls Royce. Reviewing content from APM, PMI, Axelos and other PM source material I created draft standards then planned and ran workshops where I invited key PM SME. At these workshops I would present the draft standard which would then be reviewed in detail by the PM SME. Once approved I then launched each standard onto the intranet site and when all were completed created a catalogue of PM Standards. Show less This programme was to develope and deploy the capability of the Oracle Primavera P6 Resource Management Suite across all global Rolls-Royce Businesses and Functions. Prior to P6 deployment the system of engineering resource management had approximately 50,000 spreadsheets spread across RR global and a large sub-function of resource managers managing these spreadsheets. I was the interim Business Change Manager with a workpackage to deploying the Oracle Primavera P6 Resource Management system across the Rolls Royce global campus. This was in two stages. In the intial pre deployment phase I held workshops and interviews with Resource Subject Matter Experts to create a Business Framework that allowed a staged change process timed with the load/capacity process drumbeat that could integrate existing resource templates into the Orcale Enterprise system. For each step of this process I also created guides that explained exactly what to do and when. This meant that for the deployment phase deployment leads around the company could utilise this framework and guide to translate existing systems into the new enterprise system. Show less
